Awards and gifts toward garden maintenance and restoration

2017
The trust was very grateful for the generous assistance of the Finnis Scott Foundation towards the maintenance of The Pleasance. This enabled the continued management and development of the garden as a community green space within the centre of Haddington which is accessible to all. As such the garden has made an important contribution to the town's gold award in successive entries to the 'Beautiful Scotland' competition as commented on by its judges.

2016
A donation from Haddington and District Amenity Society enabled the renewal of the raised herb sensory beds that had become a tangle of plants and weeds. The topsoil was replaced and shrubby herbs were planted according to the 4 themes of medicinal, cosmetic, domestic and culinary.
2015
An award from the Keep Scotland Beautiful Community Grant Scheme enabled the planting of thousands of snowdrops, as well as some wild tulips and cowslips to enhance the orchard meadow as a spring flowering feature. Ox Slips were later added.

2008
A grant of £2,500 from Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust was for the replanting of the Cottage Garden.  The original garden was completely excavated with a JCB and a new design was laid out.  Two large beds were planted, with assistance from Macplants of Pencaitland, and a new boundary hedge was established.  Two crab-apple trees were also added.

2008
A grant of £7,144 from BBC Breathing Places enabled the establishment of a community orchard and wild flower meadow. East Lothian Council staff and many other individuals were involved in stripping, harrowing and replanting the orchard with period apple, plum, cherry and nut trees.  Spring bulbs were planted and the area undersown as a wildflower meadow.

General
Over the years individuals have donated garden materials and heritage plants.  Volunteers have contributed throughout the period in many ways:  for example, by helping to rewire most of the boundary walls, removing ivy, preparing plant lists and by general weeding.
