Volunteers from Amisfield Garden and the Haddington Garden Trust recently joined forces to plant 1000 bulbs in St Mary’s Pleasance. With 2000 Snowdrops planted earlier in the year the transformation of the wild flower meadow into a Spring flowering spectacle is now well under way.
Through the award of a grant from East Lothian Council’s Civic Pride Fund this was the final planting project in the garden for the year. The award also enabled the renewal of one of the feature borders in the popular sunken garden. Bobby Gordon, the St Mary’s Pleasance gardener, said “all the bulbs selected for planting would have been common in a 17thcentury garden such as the Pleasance. They are close to the wild varieties and so will naturalise to become a feature for visitors at a time of year when there is little colour in the garden”. |
East Lothian Library Bookbug Sessions

Bookbug sessions are held every Wednesday morning in the library for babies, birth -4years. www.scottishbooktrust.com Sharing, songs, rhymes and stories has proved to have many benefits for young children.
The library thought how nice it would be to enjoy a Bookbug outdoors in summer and thought of the beautiful garden at St Mary’s Pleasance. The first session was held on Wednesday 25th June. Mums, Dads, and grannies loved it so much, many did not know the garden existed, and have asked if we can do this again!
We had a great morning!
